Celebrating Compost Awareness Week: Sunday 2 May – Saturday 8 May
Tuesday 27 April 2021
Council will celebrate International Compost Awareness Week with giveaways, profiles of Inner West composters, a free workshop and tips for successful composting and worm farming.
International Composting Awareness Week 2021 is a week of activities, events and publicity to improve awareness of the importance of compost as a valuable organic resource.
The week also promotes compost use, knowledge and products.
During the week, Council is inviting submissions from would-be composters, asking “Tell us in 25 words or fewer why it’s time for you to start composting and/or worm farming”.
Prizes are compost bins and worm farms.
As well, ‘Composters of the Inner West’ share their photos, stories and tips for successful composting.

Composting and worm farming are simple ways to reduce waste and provide free fertiliser for gardens.
All year round, Council offers advice, composting guide, worm farming guide, videos, and workshops to help people set up the system that works best for them:
•Compost bins at home are often a better option for houses with a garden as they can take most food scraps, garden prunings and leaf-litter
•Worm farms are limited to some fruit and vegetables, although they are very compact and don't smell – making them ideal for apartments with a balcony or small courtyard
Inner West residents can also order discounted products through the Compost Revolution program all year round, including:
•Dirt Vader compost bin
•Green Cone solar composter
•'Revolver' compost aerator
•The Farm worm farm
•Hungry Bin worm farm
•1,000 live worms
