Public transport

Buses

Bus routes

  • M30 – Spit Junction to Sydenham via City via Mosman, Neutral Bay, City, Chippendale, Newtown, Enmore and Sydenham.
  • M10 – Leichhardt to Maroubra Junction via Parramatta Road, University of Sydney, University of Technology, Broadway, City, Taylor Square, Anzac Parade and UNSW.
  • 308 – Marrickville Metro to City – Gresham Street via St Peters, Alexandria and Redfern. Starts and ends at Redfern in morning and afternoon peak periods.
  • 348 – Wolli Creek to Bondi Junction via Tempe, Sydenham, St Peters, Alexandria, Rosebery, SupaCenta, UNSW, Randwick and Waverley.
  • 352 – Marrickville Metro to Bondi Junction via Newtown, The University of Sydney, Chippendale, Surry Hills, Darlinghurst and Paddington.
  • 355 – Marrickville Metro via Newtown and Surry Hills.
  • 412 – Campsie to City via Dulwich Hill, Marrickville and Newtown.
  • 413 – Campsie to City via Ashbury, Lewisham, Parramatta Road, University of Sydney and Railway Square.
  • 418 – Bondi Junction to Burwood via Queens Park, Prince of Wales Hospital, Kingsford, Eastlakes, Mascot, Sydenham, Marrickville Metro, Dulwich Hill, Hurlstone Park, Ashfield and Croydon.
  • 422 – Kogarah to City via Newtown via Rockdale, Tempe, St Peters, Newtown, University of Sydney and Railway Square.
  • 423, L23 – Kingsgrove and Dulwich Hill to City via Earlwood, Undercliffe, Marrickville, Enmore, Newtown, The University of Sydney and Railway Square. Route L23 operates Monday to Friday during peak periods and is a limited stops service.
  • 425 – Tempe to Dulwich Hill via Sydenham and Marrickville. Service operates Monday to Saturday.
  • 426 – Kingsgrove and Dulwich Hill to City via Marrickville, Enmore, Newtown, The University of Sydney and Railway Square.
  • 428, L28 – Canterbury to City via Newtown via Dulwich Hill, Petersham, Enmore, Newtown, University of Sydney and Railway Square. Route L28 operates Monday to Friday during peak periods and is a limited stops service.
  • 444, 445 – Balmain East Wharf (Darling Street) to Campsie via Darling Street, Balmain Road, Norton Street, Petersham, Dulwich Hill, Hurlstone Park and Canterbury.
  • 461 – Burwood to City via Parramatta Road, University of Sydney and Railway Square.
  • 480, 483 – Strathfield to City via South Strathfield, Ashfield (Liverpool Road), Parramatta Road, University of Sydney and Railway Square.
  • 438, L38 – Abbotsford to City via Five Dock, Haberfield, Norton Street, Parramatta Road, University of Sydney and Railway Square. Route L38 operates Monday to Friday during peak periods and is a limited stops service.
  • 439, L39 – Mortlake to City via Concord, Canada Bay, Five Dock, Haberfield, Norton Street, Parramatta Road, University of Sydney and Railway Square. Route L39 operates Monday to Friday during peak periods and is a limited stops service.

Trains

The Inner West Council area is well serviced by Sydney Trains with stations on the Bankstown Line, Inner West Line and Illawarra Line. Bicycles are permitted on Sydney and Intercity train services for free.

Train stations

  • T3 Bankstown Line – Dulwich Hill, Marrickville, Sydenham, St Peters. Services to the City or to Liverpool/Lidcombe via Bankstown.
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line – Sydenham, Tempe. Services to Bondi Junction via the City, or to Mortdale/Waterfall/Cronulla.
  • T2 Inner West & South Line – Newtown, Stanmore, Petersham, Lewisham. All-stations services to the City or to Homebush.
  • T2 Airport Line (weekday peak only) – Sydenham. Express services to the City (morning peak) and to Campbelltown (afternoon peak).

 

Sydney Trains also provides a late night bus service (NightRide) during early morning hours when most trains do not run. The NightRide network mirrors the rail network, but some routes and stopping patterns are different.

Ferries 

Ferry services connect with buses at Balmain East Wharf (route 442) towards the City.  Bicycles are allowed on Sydney Ferries services for free when conditions permit.

  • F4 Darling Harbour Service - Balmain East Wharf (Darling Street).

Light rail

The Inner West is serviced by the L1 Dulwich Hill Line which extends from Central to Dulwich Hill station.
