Kids come out to play at EDGE GreenWay

Thursday, 21 March 2019

Inner West Council’s EDGE GreenWay – a night of art, performance, imagination and wisdom-sharing – is also all about children, with an exciting and imaginative Kids Program.

EDGE GreenWay is a FREE one-night-only immersive arts experience at Iron Cove Bay Run, corner Lilyfield Road and Canal Road, Lilyfield on Saturday, 30 March, 3pm-9pm.

On arrival, children can pick up the free Kids Program, Through the Magnifying Glass, by children’s cartoon artist Bunkwaa. Then:

• Snap and post a selfie at each of the massive magnifying glasses that highlight native animals

• Discover the native GreenWay creatures through artworks, puppets and performers including the eastern Eastern Blue Tongue Lizard, Striped Marsh Frog, Giant Dragonfly, Long Nosed Bandicoot, Superb Fairy Wren, Eastern Bentwing Bat and Powerful Owl

• Gather under the bridge pylons in a upcycled playground that will host performers and puppets, craft workshops, sandpit play and a bike-powered interactive dance floor by Milkcrate events

• Spot the Rockabilly Bandicoots or meet furry and feathered friends including Cockatoos, Lorikeets, Ibis, Herons, the Spoonbill, the Crow, the Witchetty Grub, and the Blue Banded Bee by Deep Sea Astronauts

• Make their own lantern with Ikara for the GreenWay Lantern Parade and add their wishes to the Boat of Dreams, which will set sail from Iron Cove at sunset

• Settle on the bridge for the spectacular premiere of gravity-defying Water’s Edge by Legs On The Wall

Rockabilly Bandicoot Indigo Redding said she couldn’t think of a better project to be involved in, and “conceiving this project among fellow crazy creative, in equally crazy locations.

“This opportunity to create work on-site has restored my faith in Inner West Council and their care for the artists within the community,” she said.

Her fellow Rockabilly Bandicoot, Jane Grimley added, “It's really affirming and exciting to be performing in Edge GreenWay. It inspired and supported us to create a show about local stories, the environment and how precious nature is to us in urban life. We're thrilled to be part of it.”

EDGE GreenWay shines a spotlight on the cultural laboratory that is the Inner West, with a plane crash party bridge bar party showcasing free botanical mocktails, outdoor sculpture and art installations, live performances and music, words of wisdom from Aboriginal elders, environmentalists and foraging weed wizards.
