Feast on creativity at Summer Hill

Monday, 9 September 2019

Savour the village vibe of this Inner West neighbourhood as it showcases its growing small bar scene, creative retail and favourite food venues on Sunday, 29 September.

Summer Hill is set to become a heaving street fair featuring the best the suburb has to offer.

The Neighbourhood Feast is a fully licensed festival featuring four bars as well as an array of alfresco dining of fine food from Da Vinci’s, Two Fat Butchers, Thai Garn Restaurant, Plunge, Envy Deli Café and Hungry Eye Nepalese and beverages by The Rio, Nine Fingers Brew and Summer Hill Hotel.

Entertainment on the main stage has been programmed by Tess Robens from The Rio; the former milkbar was a well-loved institution of Summer Hill that still retains its original charm and 1950s signage.

A roaming brass band will feature while Mic Conway from the legendary Captain Matchbox Whoopie Band will play an assortment of oddball instruments as well as perform magic, juggling, tap dancing and fire eating; his vaudeville act will be an exciting end to the day.

A new caravan serving drinks and a kids’ playground by Monkey Puzzle will feature at The Rio’s bar area.

The infamous pizza eating competition also makes its return to Andiamo for feast go-ers to try their luck to out-eat and out-last their competitors.

Emma and John from Sweets Workshop have curated the ‘Creative Village’ which is a space for people to sit, make, learn and have fun in; including kid friendly craft workshops and presentations and workshops highlighting local artists. Highlights include:

  • Artist talk with Andrea Smith
  • The story of Gazebo Books
  • Michael and George design (creators of Drew Pencil Lamps, as seen on Shark Tank)
  • Hat making and super hero costume making

Take the time to wander the stalls, take in the sights and get to know your neighbours at the Summer Hill Neighbourhood Feast on Sunday, 29 September.
