‘Apart’ at Chrissie Cotter Gallery
Tuesday, 24 September 2019
Whimsical drawings and intricately detailed bird paintings feature at the next Chrissie Cotter Gallery exhibition, ‘Apart’.
Using visual symbolism and figurative representations, artist Janne Birker says these latest works “give an audience an insight to my latest studio works”.
“My creative process emphasises retreat, solitude, and self-reflection,” Janne said.
Janne describes Chrissie Cotter Gallery as “an incredibly important place that has acted as a marker for my evolution as an artist”.
Janne explains that, “Upon first coming to the city I would graffiti on a legal wall behind the gallery, returning so often to that place that the gallery then became a landmark for me, a part of me, a foundation from which I could observe over time the maturing of my artistic practice.
“Being able to showcase my art within the gallery would unite my practice with place and a historical sense of self.”
‘Apart’ is at Chrissie Cotter Gallery, Pidcock Street, Camperdown from Thursday, 3 October-Sunday, 6 October, 11am-4pm.
Opening: Wednesday, 2 October, 6-8pm
