2019 Anzac Day in the Inner West
Tuesday, 9 April 2019
Thousands of Inner West residents are expected to attend this year’s ANZAC Day services across Ashfield, Balmain and Petersham.
Ashfield RSL sub-branch, a small close-knit community of veterans and reservists, will present an ANZAC Day service this Sunday, 14 April, at Ashfield Park supported by Council.
At the conclusion of the service, a marching contingent will form on Pembroke Street to march back to Ashfield RSL Club.

Inner West Council and Balmain-Rozelle RSL will again hold an ANZAC Day Commemorative Dawn Service at Balmain’s Loyalty Square on Thursday, 25 April at 6am.
The Balmain Dawn Service has grown in popularity since it was first held in 2014 with crowds lining Darling Street leading up to the Loyalty Square monument that is the centre of the service.
“The monument is one of the oldest memorials to World War I soldiers, after it was unveiled in 1916 just before the first anniversary of the Gallipoli landing,” said Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne.

Petersham RSL Club will also host a Dawn Service at Petersham Town Hall, with doors opening from 5:40am.

“This year marks 104 years since the landing at Gallipoli, when Australian and New Zealanders soldiers arrived at Anzac Cove. It was the first experience of combat for the vast majority of the 16,000 Anzacs - 2,000 had been killed or wounded by the end of that first day,” said Mayor Byrne.
“I encourage residents to attend a Dawn Service to pay respect to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.”
