Community nurseries Open Day

Everybody’s invited to Inner West Council’s community nurseries Open Day, Saturday, 26 May, 10am-1pm.

Attendees will:

• Learn about native plants and native gardening

• Score a free seedling

• Take a guided tour

• Hear from volunteers who help local biodiversity

• Learn how to volunteer for local biodiversity

The Rozelle Bay Community Native Nursery at 22 Wisdom Street, Annandale, was established by the community to propagate native plants for use in community bushcare projects.

Volunteers source native seeds from local areas. The plants are then used in revegetation projects within the Inner West.

The Marrickville Community Nursery, in the Addison Road Community Centre, 142 Addison Road, Marrickville, was opened by Council in 1999.

In partnership with the community, the nursery promotes an interest in and further understanding of the native flora and fauna of the Lower Cooks River catchment, propagates and sells local provenance native plants, and provides opportunities to learn new skills and contribute to nursery operation.

The Marrickville Community Nursery has a viewing platform overlooking a frog pond and a comfortable outdoor seating area. This setting is used regularly as an outdoor classroom for community and school workshops.

For enquiries about booking the outdoor classroom, or to volunteer at either nursery, email urbanecology@innerwest.nsw.gov.au or call 0412 435 948.
