2017 Wall2Wall winners announced
Thursday 21 December 2017
Three previously bare walls in the inner west area have been transformed with paint, imagination and hard work through Council’s annual Wall2Wall competition.
The Wall2Wall competition gives artists the opportunity to showcase their talent in high profile locations. This is the eleventh year of Wall2Wall, and as a result the inner west now has 33 Wall2Wall public artworks.
Wall2Wall is just one of a number of initiatives employed by Inner West Council’s in its innovative approach to minimising tagging while offering artists the challenge to create site specific artworks.
The judges this year were photographer Rick Gates, Summer Hill Community Centre manager Jorg Gutierrez, and Council’s Placemaking and Public Art Officer Bronwyn Tuohy.
The Wall2Wall prizes for 2017 are:
- 1st Place – $6,000. Sharon Billinge’s site: 756 Darling Street Rozelle. Sharon was inspired by the people who work and participate in the programs at the Rozelle Neighbourhood Centre and in the hall of the Balmain Uniting Church and Mission.
- 2nd Place - $3,000. Scott Nagy’s site: Summer Hill Neighbourhood Centre, 131 Smith Street, Summer Hill
- 3rd Place – $1500, Janne Birkner’s site: 176 Mullens Street Rozelle

And all inner west citizens are reminded that Council’s Perfect Match is back in 2018 and applications are now open.
Perfect Match brings artists, residents, businesses, property owners and community partners together to collaboratively create fantastic new artworks in public places.
Property owners or tenants can, through Council, commission an artist to create a work on a wall that has been subject to unwanted graffiti, while artists wanting to be commissioned by Council apply to create a bold, innovative artwork that reflects the unique heritage, stories, character and style of inner west communities and public places.
Applications close Thursday 8 March 5pm. Go toPerfect Match
