Inner West Council Meetings to Live Stream on YouTube Live streaming of Inner Council meetings via YouTube will start this year in a move to make it easier for many more in the community to follow meetings and hear about issues that interest them. Administrator Richard Pearson said it is expected Council meetings will be available via streaming in time for the December ordinary meeting. “Councils in NSW and other states are introducing live streaming of meetings to allow greater access to Council decision making and debate and encourage openness and transparency,” he said. “For the many in our community that can’t attend meetings due to issues of time or accessibility, live streaming is a practical step that will allow anyone anywhere to watch and listen to the meeting in real time.” Mr Pearson said the streaming service would be delivered through a YouTube channel. “Providing streaming via YouTube is an innovative solution which minimises costs to Council, has wide application and is very familiar to most users of the internet,” he said. Mr Pearson said all speakers addressing Council will be advised that the meeting will be broadcast before the start of each meeting. “It is important to note the Council meetings are already recorded and there are numerous other Australian councils that have been successfully live streaming Council meetings without any concerns,” he said. “Increasing and expanding public access through streaming also helps us to meet open government obligations of transparency and accountability.” Streaming is the process of delivering multimedia content via the internet, in audio and/or video format.
