Culture X Ashfield, Friday 9 – Sunday 11 September, is a jam-packed weekend of cross-cultural world music concerts and events.

Culture X Ashfield in Pratten Park features a Horn and Drum Parade through the streets of Ashfield, a family-friendly community dance party, world music concert, folk-fusion music and a Balkan feast.

Performers include Indo-fusion drum ensemble Rhythm Hunters, The Seven Ups, Sufi-inspired Farhan Shah & SufiOz and hip hop and rock grooves from Worlds Collide.

• FREE Friday 9 September - Community party, Horn and Drum Parade, Rhythm Hunters concert

• Saturday 10 September - Cross Cultural new music concert and panel

• FREE Sunday 11 September - Folk fusion concert, dance workshops and kids activities

Full program:

Friday 9 September

4pm - Horn and Drums Parade (free). Bring your horn or drum and shake up Ashfield.
5pm - Culture X community party (free). Post parade party, featuring Fbi’s DJ Jack Sh$t with special musical guests. Dance, eat and be merry.
6.30pm - Culture X community concert with Rhythm Hunters (free). Cutting edge physical percussion, western horns, Asian flute, deep grooves and electro beats.

Saturday 10 September

2pm - Music in Conversation panel discussion (free). Chaired by Jill Morgan AM (former CEO Multicultural Arts Victoria, board member Australian Art Orchestra and Federation of Ethnic Communities Council of Australia), with speakers Farhan Shah (Sufi vocalist/producer and leader of SufiOz), Richard Petkovic (Cultural Arts Collective cross cultural music producer and Western Sydney Sound pioneer) and Gai Bryant (composer of Latin inspired Jazz with Ally and Caribe), Keith Preston (Folk Alliance president and pioneering world musician)
6pm - New music concert with The Seven Ups, Farhan Shah & SufiOz and Worlds Collide.

Sunday 11 September

Midday - Balkan Feast
12pm - 5pm - Culture X Folk Fusion day of music, dance and food from around the word:
1pm - Balkan dance workshops, followed by Balkan Ethno Orchestra (free)
2.30pm - Aboriginal dance workshops, followed by GiiMusic (free)
3.30pm - Salsa dance workshop, followed by Selecta Orchestra Concert (free)
