Council announces 2016 Grants
Forty six Arts and Cultural Grants, Independent Artists Grants, Community Grants, and Recreation Grants were approved at Tuesday night’s Council meeting.
“The grants announced last night are the former Marrickville Council, which had already been finalised for 2016, pre-merger,” the Administrator of Inner West Council Richard Pearson said.
“They actually represent the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the new Inner West Council grants program, which is taking applications right now,” he said.
“These include the Stronger Communities Grants Program, part of the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Fund, with a dedicated $1 million to be spent on community grants in the Inner West Council area over the next three years.
“Inner west community groups can apply for up to $50,000 in grant funding – a big increase on the grants programs of the three former Councils of Ashfield, Leichhardt and Marrickville.”
The Stronger Community grant program is being run in conjunction with the grant programs of the former councils of Ashfield (Arts, Community and Environment) and Leichhardt (Community, Events, Environment, Seniors and Local History). These grants provide for up to $7,500 per project.
“I congratulate all the recipients of the grants announced last night, and I urge local community groups to apply for the grants now open. Projects could include club facility upgrades, funding of sporting equipment, or tools and equipment to improve delivery of community services,” Mr Pearson said.
Some of the successful grant recipients so far are (full a full list see links below):
• $3,000 Arts and Cultural Grant to Marrickville High School for the design and implementation of a public artwork along their Sydenham Road fence
