Calling artists for Large-Scale Mural Street Art Projects Artists are being invited to put forward proposals for four large-scale works as part of two exciting new mural street art projects. The artworks will be located in Ashfield’s Town Centre and along the Bay Run and aim to enhance the thriving identity of Sydney’s inner west. Administrator of Inner West Council Richard Pearson said the artworks will be installed at four sites throughout the area – three in the Ashfield Town Centre and the fourth along the Bay Run at Haberfield. “The delivery of innovative Public Art is part of council’s Ashfield Town Centre Renewal Project Public Domain Strategy which aims to deliver bold and dynamic public space developments that contribute to the creative and cultural life of Ashfield,” Mr Pearson said. “The Town Centre Renewal Project was adopted following extensive community consultation and includes innovative plans to rejuvenate key Town Centre locations to create a safer, more attractive, pedestrian friendly and lively destination to visit and do business. “The fourth artwork location along the Bay Run in Haberfield is the gateway to a significant Aboriginal site in the inner west which was used by the Wangal people for thousands of years and still used as a place of teaching today. “This site is also an important gateway to the GreenWay, marking an urban ecological corridor connecting the Parramatta River and Cooks River.” The Bay Run Mural/Street Art Project opportunity is open to artists who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander to honour the significance of the site and to ensure that the heritage and integrity of the site are protected. Artists are being invited to submit their proposals for these Public Art Projects by Friday September 9, 2016 at 9.30am. Application materials are available on Council’s website at http://www.ashfield.nsw.gov.au/page/public_art.html. Mr Pearson said more public art projects will be announced later this year.
