Waste Busters

The Waste Busters are Council's waste education outreach team. Their mission is to help you move towards zero waste.

Inner West Council is committed to reducing landfill and keeping materials in use for as long as possible through reuse and recycling. Our target is to reduce waste landfilled per capita by 50% by 2036. Every household can take small actions to help achieve this, and the Waste Busters are on hand to support, encourage and educate.

You'll find the Waste Busters out and about at community events such as local markets and festivals. They are happy to answer any tricky waste, recycling or FOGO-related questions.

The Waste Busters develop and run community programs that focus on easy ways to reduce waste and increase reuse and recycling. Currently the team are rolling out a bin tagging program, congratulating residents who are using the green and yellow-lid bins correctly and providing friendly feedback to those that need a helping hand.

The team are also able to provide waste reduction consultations at your home or over the phone.

What the Waste Busters are offering

    Waste reduction consultations

The Waste Busters offer tailored waste reduction consultations - at your residence or over the phone - to help you reduce the amount of waste entering your red lid garbage bin. This will include a friendly discussion to understand your household's needs and current waste practices, and can also include an audit of your red lid garbage bin.

Tailored feedback will be provided based on these discussions, and any households that participate in an audit will also receive a summary of the key findings. The Waste Busters will then help you develop simple, achievable goals to help you reduce and avoid waste, and increase reuse and recycling. You may be surprised to see how much waste your household can reduce!

    Community group visits

Our Waste Buster team make waste education easy and accessible. Are you part of a group that meets on a regular basis (language/cultural, parent, activity-based group etc.)? The Waste Busters can come to you at your usual time and location and tailor their visit to suit your needs. School visits are also offered. Contact us for more information.

    Community events support

Our Waste Buster team make waste education fun! Holding a community event, such as a market, fete or festival? Get in touch to see if the Waste Busters can come along. Their attendance would involve a range of interactive waste education activities that aim to increase understanding of what goes in which bin.

You can contact the Waste Busters with any other questions or feedback at wastebusters@innerwest.nsw.gov.au or by calling 02 9392 5303.
