Waste Busters
The Waste Busters are Council's waste education outreach team. Their mission is to help you move towards zero waste.
Inner West Council is committed to reducing landfill and keeping materials in use for as long as possible through reuse and recycling. Our target is to reduce waste landfilled per capita by 50% by 2036. Every household can take small actions to help achieve this, and the Waste Busters are on hand to support, encourage and educate.
In 2025 the Waste Busters will be supporting Inner West apartment residents to use Council's food recycling service, FOGO (food organics garden organics). We know apartment living presents unique challenges for waste and recycling and we're here to help.
The Waste Busters will be visiting apartment buildings, assessing bin rooms and waste collections systems, as well as speaking with building and strata managers. The aim is to better understand the challenges faced by apartment residents and to work towards practical solutions that make it easier to FOGO in your apartment building.
If you'd like the Waste Busters to visit your apartment building, get in touch with our team today. Email: wastebusters@innerwest.nsw.gov.au or call 02 9392 5303.
Note that coordination with your apartment building's building or strata manager will be required.

Waste reduction consultations
The Waste Busters also offer free tailored waste reduction consultations - at your residence or over the phone - to help you reduce the amount of waste entering your red lid garbage bin. This will include a friendly discussion to understand your household's needs and current waste practices, and can also include an audit of your red lid garbage bin.
Tailored feedback will be provided based on these discussions, and any households that participate in an audit will also receive a summary of the key findings. The Waste Busters will then help you develop simple, achievable goals to help you reduce and avoid waste, and increase reuse and recycling. You may be surprised to see how much waste your household can reduce, even if you're already doing a great job!
You can contact the Waste Busters with any other questions or feedback at wastebusters@innerwest.nsw.gov.au or by calling 02 9392 5303.
