Community sharps collection

Community sharps are medical devices that penetrate the skin and are used by many to maintain their health. Community sharps include:

Needles – used to give injections, draw blood or insert insulin pump tubing
Syringes – even if the needle is removed
Pen needles for insulin pens
Blood glucose or finger pricker lancets

Proper disposal of community sharps reduces the risk of harm to the environment and others. If they are disposed of incorrectly they pose a significant risk to waste and recycling workers as well as the community.

Council has partnered with local pharmacies to dispose of sharps. Simply place sharps in a sharps container or other puncture resistant container (not glass) and drop it off for free at one of our participating pharmacies, a sharps disposal bin or public hospital.
