Artist statement

Blocks of red-brick flats are a ubiquitous sight across Sydney. I love their clean lines, solidity, boldness of colour and honest architecture. As they're constructed from the same basic catalogue of bricks, roof tiles and windows, there is a uniformity and anonymity, with only a street number to separate them. But some are lucky enough to be named, to have an identity, their autographs proudly signed in white painted steel. I’ve photographed these signatures of buildings from across the inner-west and re-built them brick by brick into this autograph collection.
