The production

Between November 2022 and April 2023 Council called for expressions of interest for the Creative Use of Council Venues short term residencies at town halls. With the callout complete the program commenced, supporting individuals, collectives and organisations to access space. The short-term pilot program allows spaces to be trialled, and inform future processes. Controlled Chaos Productions was one of the successful groups who are using the space at Marrickville Town Hall to develop and present their work, Terminus. More about this thrilling play below.

A cunning, but shy, serial killer sells his soul to the devil in exchange for a beautiful singing voice. A mother embarks on a vigilante crusade. And a lonely young woman finds love in the most unearthly of places. Flirting on the precipice of reality and fantasy, Mark O’Rowe’s Terminus is a wickedly funny and fantastically twisted play that follows the lives of these 3 individuals over a 24 hour period.

Written in poetic prose the interlocking monologues draw you into a confronting story of humanity and redemption, occasionally stepping into a fantastical world of the supernatural before delivering you back to the world of the real, only now, you see and understand what drives these characters from an enlightened perspective.

It is rare to experience a play in Sydney that would be classified as a thriller. Terminus will punch you in the face. Soar you high above the city before plummeting you into the depths of hell. Be daring. Come to be thrilled, amused and grotesquely satisfied.

Terminus explores the depths of the human condition through wit and humour. We aim to offer our Inner West community, and beyond, an opportunity to witness a unique performance that will ignite the mind and spark conversation. Terminus is the kind of play that will stay with you for years after you’ve seen it, and you will be reminded of the moments you question humanity.
