Ate Indai (Ah-thay-In-dye)
Ate Indai (Ah-thay-In-dye) is a multidisciplinary work, using live performance, installation, video and 3D work - seeking to initiate dialogue around cultural representation and exchange. Ate Indai is an intriguing and commentary persona created by artist Rosell Flatley. Her practice is a method by which she simultaneously challenges and strengthens her connection with her Filipino heritage while also exploring the migrant experience in being a first generation Australian. Through a range of artistic mediums, she narrates and highlights the struggles that her and her family have endured and overcome.
Current work and inspiration
Rosell is working on a variety of projects at the moment and recently she has been developing a work called ‘Speed Dating with Ate Indai’. This work was shown at The Rock(s) for Intimate Spectacle called “Out Of ISO Again and Again”. This performance was about the opportunity to participate in this interactive art piece that explores Filipina hospitality and one-on-one traditional food date. Rosell says "making my work is the best way to express my work regarding family, culture and social justice".
You can catch Ate Indai at the upcoming EDGE Art Camp on the GreenWay and at Campsie Festival 2022.
