Council is a passionate supporter of local arts and culture. Creative and Cultural industries put $1.4 billion per annum into the local economy and employ 6500 people.

One in ten local residents work in the creative and cultural sector, and over half of these are cultural producers (the highest of all Australian creative hotspots).

Council undertakes a range of cultural policy and planning initiatives in support of the sector, including: 

• Input into relevant local government and state strategies and policies
• Targeted strategic support of the local live music sector 
• Cultural research

  Council engaged WSU to carry out 11 case studies of local creative spaces – identifying key needs, threats and opportunities for the sector.

  Council engaged Leftbank and JOC to come up with policy options and potential actions for Council to support local creative spaces.
