19 Railway Road is a short-term artist and writers residency.

Artist Statement

Oliver Abbott’s work explores recollection as a creative process, transforming fragments of memory into new, imagined landscapes. Drawing on personal histories of lived places, Abbott navigates virtual landscapes built from memory, using digital tools to mirror how recollection distorts and reshapes architecture. His paintings extend these digital reconstructions, restoring and inventing details lost in the translation from memory to virtual space.

Artist Statement

My practice is led by intuition and perplexity. Working primarily with sculpture, I am concerned with how materials, gesture, and process can unearth poetic meaning from within prosaic matter. Typically, found objects enter my studio and are extended through casting, assemblage, and display. The resulting work is often held in a balance between the permanent and ephemeral, embodying the tension between a view of art as aesthetic or object-bound, and that of art as concept or idea.
