Exhibiting artist: James Lesjak-atton
Artist/s statement
Persistence of Form is an exploration into the boundaries where sculpture meets painting, attempting to push the limitations of both disciplines through a series of innovative works. This exhibition features carved and painted timber forms that extend beyond conventional sculpture, interacting dynamically with the gallery space. The works do not merely inhabit the space; they actively reshape it, extending onto the floor and weaving through the environment to create a transformative experience for the viewer.
In this exhibition, viewers are invited to engage with the interplay of shape and movement in new and unexpected ways. By freeing each sculpture from the usual constraints of traditional display methods, the gallery becomes a dynamic stage where each work interacts fluidly with its surroundings. This approach encourages viewers to contemplate the art in relation to the space and to themselves, fostering a more immersive and participatory experience.
James Lesjak-Atton is an Australian artist, based in Sydney. He received his BFA at Sydney College of the Arts in Rozelle, majoring in sculpture.
His works range across a variety of mediums including Murals, Sculpture, Painting and Installation. Lesjak-atton 's work combines 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional forms, alternative use of materials and explorations of relationships between shape, form and colour.
