Precinct Parking Strategies - Newtown, Enmore, Marrickville, Lewisham, Sydenham
All Precinct Parking Strategies are developed to:
- deliver a better balance of parking space for residents, businesses, shoppers, commuters and others;
- promote sustainable transport;
- maximise the parking space already in place and deliver new appropriate space; and
- manage changing parking needs over time.
Precicnt Parking Strategies have been developed for Newtown-Enmore, Marrickville Town Centre, Lewisham, Sydenham. Read the key focus of each strategy below.
Newtown-Enmore Parking Strategy
Key features include:
- Protection of resident parking through changes to the M3 permit parking areas including an increase in the streets with permit parking
- A laneway parking plan to improve access to properties and improve safety in passing in the laneways
- Implementation of a ticket parking scheme on King Street and Enmore Road in the evening, to improve parking turnover and availability – includes 30 minute free parking for users.
- Additional dedicated car-share spaces
- Additional accessible parking spaces
- Installation of a taxi rank near Enmore Theatre in the evening
- Additional enforcement to manage parking in the area
Marrickville Town Centre Parking Strategy
Key features include:
- Extra short term parking (2 hour or less) near the shopping strips to allow more people to access local businesses and additional short term parking on Saturday mornings from 8.30am – 12.30pm
- An additional 150 on-street angled parking spaces near the town centre in Despointes Street, Frampton Avenue, Gladstone Street, Malakoff Street and O'Hara Street
- Protection of resident parking through changes to the M2 permit parking areas
- New parking signs to improve consistency of restrictions, to reduce confusion and make it easier to find available spaces
- Additional dedicated car-share spaces near the town centre
- Further investigation into improving the useability of the Frampton Avenue West Car Park
- Further investigations into parking on Arthur Street, Central Avenue, Fernbank Street, Leofrene Avenue and Schwebel Street.
- New ½P spaces beside 175 Marrickville Road, 198–204 Marrickville Road, 265–273 Illawarra Road and 299 Illawarra Road
Lewisham Parking Strategy
Key features include:
- Protection of resident parking through changes to the M7 permit parking areas including an increase in the streets with permit parking.
- Additional dedicated car-share spaces.Additional accessible parking spaces.
- Additional dedicated car-share spaces
- Further investigations into opportunities to upgrade cycling facilities.
- Further investigations into the Local Area Traffic Management within the Lewisham with particularly interest around the education precinct.
- Additional enforcement to manage parking in the area.
Sydenham Parking Strategy
Key features include:
- Protection of resident parking through changes to the M4 permit parking areas including an increase in the number of streets with permit parking
- Improved parking controls around Sydenham Station including provision for new set down/pick-up, car share, taxi and accessible parking spaces
- Further investigations into opportunities to upgrade pedestrian and cycling facilities around Sydenham Station
- Additional enforcement to manage commuter parking around Sydenham Station
