Solar education opportunities
Bringing the learnings from the rooftop to the classroom
What is on offer?
After installation, the Solar my School program offers free promotional assistance and student activities to share the learnings with the whole school community.
Book now to secure a spot for Term 1 or 2 2024. Limited sessions are available.
Option 1: SolarBuddy construction
Students learn how to put together a portable solar light. They prepare a letter to the student who will receive their light, for use at home in place of kerosene lights
Time: 60 – 75 minutes including overview video
Audience: Primary (Y3-6) or high school students
Capacity: Group of up to 80 students. Council can supply up to 20 kits per school. Students work in groups of 2-4
Cost to school: FREE
Option 2: Student Buddy construction
More complex than SolarBuddy, students learn to assemble a solar light panel and USB charger
Time: 60 minutes. lesson plans available
Audience: High school students (STEM class)
Capacity: 20 students. Council can supply up to 5 kits per school dependent on demand
Cost to school: FREE
Option 3: solar car construction and racing
Students are challenged to build and race solar cars, which are then disassembled. Council will lead this activity with an expert from UNSW.
Time: 75-90 minutes to allow for racing
Audience: Primary (from y3) or high school students.
Capacity: Each session has a maximum limit of 60 students. The session can be run up to three times in a school day
