Paper negative portrait of a person

The Darkroom Social

May Street Workshop Tent

1:00 - 4:00pm

Drop in for a portrait session or arrange a still life scene at the Darkroom Social’s pop-up photo studio, where artists Remi and Isobel use 19th Century cameras and develop photos using coffee waste from a nearby cafe. Watch and learn as the artists process the paper negatives on-site, creating unique and beautiful effects on your photos, which you can then take home.

This slow-photography, eco-praxis approach to image making minimises the environmental impact of traditional, extractive and toxic analogue photographic processes in favour of more environmentally conscious, experimental processes.

The workshop is tailored to people with an interest in photography, history, and environmentally conscious art processes. Anyone from the community can attend, whether you have previous photographic experience or not.

Echoes of the City

May Lane Workshop Tent

First session: 12:30 - 2:00pm

Second session: 3:00 - 4:30pm

This city holds a multitude of perspectives and stories woven together. Echoes of the City: A Creative Sensory Exploration invites participants to explore what makes their city shine and document their personal stories and memories associated with the city, guided by its sounds, scents and light.

Your facilitators, Akala, Monty and Viv, will guide you through a process of connecting with your favourite city memories through sensory association exercises. These memories will then be transformed into poems, stories and cyanotype prints and collated into a zine.

This workshop aims to foster a deeper connection to the city by highlighting its sensory dimensions, layers of Country and encouraging participants to express their unique perspectives creatively.
