Off Broadway Precinct
What is the Off Broadway Precinct?
The ‘Off Broadway Precinct’ is home for Independent artists of Sydney.
The Inner West Council is partnering with The Sydney Fringe Festival to launch a new creative arts precinct along and around Parramatta Rd; from Catherine Street Leichhardt to Pyrmont Bridge Road, Camperdown.
The Off Broadway Precinct is the ideal location for Sydney’s indie creative and cultural precinct. It’s close to the CBD, sits on one of the City’s main public transport routes and has limited residential properties..
The Precinct is already home to live music venues, performance spaces, record and instrument shops, artist studios, galleries, rehearsal spaces, creative industries and artisan shops.
It will grow as we welcome more creatives into the area, building the capacity of our creative sector and live performance industry.
The Off Broadway Precinct seeks to support existing businesses and help foster new an intimate performance and music venues, as well as encouraging a range of other ancillary and complementary business into the area.

Background
The Off Broadway Precinct has grown out of the Off Broadway report (PDF 4.1MB)
The Precinct Area was already home to a number of live music venues and performance spaces, together with ancillary businesses such as musical instrument retailers, repair shops, teaching and recording studios.
Music and performance industry experts have identified a critical shortage of smaller, more intimate venues where independent productions can be staged
Why Live Music and Performance Art?
Live music and performance arts contribute $1.35 billion dollars to the NSW economy.
Recognising that the growth of the industry is restricted by “red tape”, a number of NSW government agencies have committed to streamlining the many processes associated with live music and performance.
