Leichhardt Park Aquatic Centre Upgrade
Project background
Inner West Council is undertaking a major upgrade of the Leichhardt Park Aquatic Centre.
With the Olympic and diving pools both having reached the end of their lifecycle, Council will completely renovate the Aquatic Centre to secure its future for another 50 years.
More than 763,000 people walk through the doors of this Aquatic Centre each year, and thousands of local families depend on the Centre for their exercise, rehabilitation and wellbeing.
We have already delivered the awesome new Ashfield Aquatic Centre and saved Dawn Fraser Baths, now it’s time to upgrade Leichhardt Park Aquatic Centre and secure its future too.
Project stages
The renovation of the pool will be undertaken in two stages.
Stage 1 works
Stage 1 of the exciting Leichhardt Park Aquatic Centre upgrade will commence on Tuesday 1 April 2025.
These works will focus on improving the children’s play and indoor pool area and will include:
- A new children’s splash play area
- Refurbishment of the children’s play pool
- Improved outdoor BBQ and shaded seating area
- New glass fencing around the children’s pool area
- New heating systems
Impacts during stage 1 works:
- Children’s mushroom pool will be closed from Tuesday 1 April for refurbishments that include a new kids’ splash play area, BBQ area, seating and shade structures.
- Hydrotherapy pool closure update: Due to successful negotiations between council and its contractor, we are pleased to say that the hydrotherapy pool will remain open throughout Stage 1 of construction.
Work times
When: Tuesday 1 April to late October 2025 (weather permitting)
Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm
Saturday, 8am to 3pm
Our contractors and management are doing everything we can to minimise disruptions.
Aquatics staff will keep you updated regarding closures, disruptions including power outages, or ongoing works should there be any changes to this timeline due to weather impacts.
We thank you for your patience while we deliver these important upgrades.
Stage 2 works
Stage 2 of the project is the largest section of the upgrade with works scheduled to commence in early 2026.
These works will deliver new facilities, including:

- Storage, lifeguard and first aid rooms
