With more than 30,000 new donors needed in the coming 12 months across New South Wales, the Marrickville Blood Donor Centre will play a critical role in meeting the state’s need for blood. The new Marrickville Donor Centre will boost Australia’s blood supply by an estimated 14,000 litres every year, helping to save 46,000 lives. The centre features a new and modern design, including comfy donor chairs, high speed internet, and a spacious refreshment area, providing a relaxed an enjoyable environment to donate blood.
Blood is still commonly used: a blood donation is needed every 24 seconds in Australia, and one in three of us will need donated blood as some point in our lives. The need for plasma – the lifesaving “golden” part of blood – is at a record high. There are a growing number of patients relying on plasma donations for the treatment of cancer, immune disorders, haemophilia, trauma, and kidney disease. Plasma is now the most needed type of blood donation in Australia.
