King George Park Inclusive Playground opening

Thursday 5 September 2024

Inner West Council is proud to officially open the new King George Park Inclusive Playground to the community this Saturday 7 September 2024.

With extensive feedback from locals and inclusive play experts at Touched by Olivia Foundation, we have delivered this high-quality, fully inclusive playground so that all children can experience the joys and benefits of play together.

Inclusive playgrounds are vital to our community as they provide a space that is accessible to not only children but people of all ages and abilities. These playgrounds also offer a happy and safe space for children where difference is not a factor, and a range of play types are catered to with areas for stimulation, quiet time and socialisation.

This is the first of five flagship inclusive playgrounds that Council will deliver across the Inner West.

Playground features include:

  • A range of action-packed, inclusive play equipment that will encourage climbing, sliding, digging, balancing, bouncing, spinning, zipping, and splashing for hours.
  • New BBQ and picnic areas, seating, bike racks, bubblers, shade structures and quiet respite areas for family gatherings or resting points to stop and recharge before getting back into the action.
  • New accessible amenities building with changing tables inside the playground.
  • Aboriginal cultural heritage that is reflected in the entry artwork of the Baludarri or Leatherjacket motif by Mumbulla Creative. Aboriginal artwork included throughout the play areas also reflect the important cultural stories of the park's proximity to the foreshore and connection to the sea.

Official opening event details:

  • When: Saturday 7 September, 10am to 12pm
  • Where: King George Park, Manning Street, Rozelle

Inner West Council invested in and delivered this $2.9 million project, with the NSW State Government contributing $156,000 toward this total project cost with a grant from Crown Lands from its Crown Reserves Improvement Fund (CRIF).
