Inner West Council is pleased to announce the eight successful artists commissioned to create public artworks along the GreenWay.
The Greenway, an active transport, biodiversity and public art corridor connecting the Cooks River to Iron Cove, is on track for completion in 2025.
The $60 million investment for the Greenway green grid initiative is co-funded by the NSW Government and Council to create one of the most significant public space projects in the Inner West’s history.
Council has commissioned eight artists to create site-specific works that will deliver one of Sydney’s largest free outdoor galleries.
The eight successful artists are:
- Jasmine Sarin: Gadigal Reserve Nature Play
- Benjamin Muir: Gadigal Reserve
- James Gulliver Hancock: Lewisham West
- Dr. Floria Tosca: Davis St Tunnel
- Carla Gottgens: Johnson Park
- OxKing: Constitution Rd Tunnel
- Mark O’Ryan: Hercules St Parklands Entrance
- James Voller: Hercules St Parklands
Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne said, “These artworks represent a landmark investment in our local creative community and will see the GreenWay take shape as a community space for everyone to enjoy.
“As well as an environmental and active transport link between the two Inner West rivers, the GreenWay has also always been envisaged as a cultural corridor.
“Each of these artists will create a work celebrating the local community and the GreenWay’s unique natural environment.”
With work nearly complete on connecting the missing links of the GreenWay, features include bike paths and foreshore walks, cultural and historical sites, cafes, bushcare sites and a range of parks, playgrounds and sporting facilities.
The artworks by Jasmin Sarin and Benjamin Muir in Gadigal Reserve are proudly supported by the NSW Government.
