Council wins at the Master Builders Excellence in Construction Awards

Three of Council’s major infrastructure projects have won prestigious NSW Master Builders Excellence in Construction Awards.
Haberfield Centre and Library, Dawn Fraser Baths and Ashfield Aquatic Centre were all recognised for Excellence in Construction.
The awards publicly recognise high quality workmanship, innovation and quality and are the benchmark for excellence in building in Australia.
In the first major upgrade and expansion of Haberfield Centre and Library in 30 years, the building’s heritage features were carefully restored and improvements made in functionality and technology. The result is a striking, multi-purpose community hub that will serve the needs of a 21st century diverse community.
The $8 million heritage restoration of one of Sydney’s most-loved assets, the beautiful and historic Dawn Fraser Baths, included replacing the pavilion including the decking, raising the Baths floor level to mitigate sea level rise and future-proof the facility and other improvements.
The Ashfield Aquatic Centre project involved the complete redevelopment of the site and the delivery of a state-of-the-art new facility for the Inner West community.
The works comprised the demolition of the existing facility and construction of a new outdoor 50m pool, water polo pool and leisure pool as well as the retention of an existing indoor 25m pool, and the construction of a new spa, sauna and steam room. A 900m2 gym facility is also part to the redevelopment together with various front of house facilities.
The rebuilding of the old Ashfield Pool was the largest community infrastructure project in Council’s history.

The Master Builders Association of NSW Excellence in Construction Awards is recognised throughout the construction industry as the hallmark annual event for the commercial, industrial and civil engineering sectors. The Awards celebrate outstanding achievements by companies in the NSW building and construction industry. The awards are highly contested in all sectors and showcase the excellence of many diverse projects.
