Apply for Perfect Match 2022

Monday 4 April 2022

Inner West Council’s Perfect Match is back in 2022 and applications are now open.

From small beginnings, Perfect Match has grown to become Australia’s best-known and most-loved public art and graffiti prevention program.

Perfect Match brings artists, residents, businesses, property owners and community together to collaboratively create fantastic new street artworks in public places.

Property owners are invited to find their Perfect Match by nominating their wall to be transformed by an artist. Artists submit their designs and ideas. Last year, 60 Inner West property owners and 58 artists applied.

In 2021, the 130th Perfect Match artwork was completed, including the landmark partnership with Marrickville Metro, which resulted in an array of art experiences ranging from hidden pockets of art through the interiors to giant scale commissions both within and surrounding the facility.

One of the new huge works, by world renowned Australian artist Fintan Magee, pays tribute to fellow Inner West creatives Rachael Lafferty and Wendy Sharpe working in their studios.

Other 2021 highlights were:

• Hestia’s Migration, unveiled in the heart of Little Greece in Marrickville. The artist, OxKing (Steven Nuttall) collaborated with local property owners, residents and Greek community representatives on the concept which depicts the ancient Greek goddess Hestia in the modern Australian context of the Greek migrant story

• Under the Sea in Marrickville by Neil Tompkins (Birdhat) and Digby Webster. A mix of extravagant ocean life and everyday animals of the Inner West. Digby Webster and Neil Tomkins were finalists in the Archibald last year and continued their collaborative experience in this exciting work

• Animal Creatures of Salmon Playground by Tim Andrew in Station Street Newtown. Drawing on local animals found in Salmon Playground, dogs, cats, possums, rats, ibis, bats, pigeons, skinks, minors, lorikeets and the Australian raven

• New Old by Sid Tapia in Albion Street Annandale which celebrates Annandale’s farming history (pictured)
