Free tours showcase bold contemporary public artworks at the new Marrickville Metro
Tuesday 8 June 2021
Inner West Council’s unique initiative, Perfect Match, will hit new highs this week when the new Marrickville Metro reopens to the public on Thursday 10 June.
Visitors to the new Marrickville Metro in June will find themselves amidst a world class experience of public art.
Council is hosting free Art Tours of the new works from Thursday 10 June, running on consecutive days until Monday 14 June, 2pm – 3.30pm.
Council’s Perfect Match public art program partnered with Marrickville Metro to create the landmark corporate, local government, community, and creative partnership.
The result is an array of art experiences ranging from hidden pockets of art through the interiors to giant scale commissions both within and surrounding the facility.
One of the new murals, by world renowned Australian artist Fintan Magee (top right), pays tribute to fellow Inner West creatives Rachael Lafferty and Wendy Sharpe working in their studios.
Other commissioned artists include Liz Shreeve, Helen Proctor, George Rose, Elliott Routledge, Fintan Magee, The Temp Team, Nico, Claire Foxton, Amy Kim, Jeff McCann, Richard Briggs and Georgia Hill.
From small beginnings, Perfect Match has grown to become Australia’s best-known and most-loved public art and graffiti prevention program.
The program brings artists, residents, businesses, property owners and community partners together to collaboratively create new street artworks in public places.
