Safety first around Balmain Hospital

Monday, 19 August 2019

Inner West Council has made a commitment to prioritise footpath works around Balmain Hospital, so as to ensure pedestrian and patient safety.

At a recent Council meeting, Councillors voted unanimously to fund the renewal of the footpaths, with works to be completed by the end of 2019.

Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne said Council recently received representations from Balmain Hospital concerning the condition of footpaths surrounding the Hospital site.

“There’s no higher priority than ensuring safe pedestrian access to hospitals, particularly for older people and patients undergoing rehabilitation.

“We appreciate the Hospital’s administrators bringing this to Councillors’ attention and we take responsibility for making the footpaths around the site safer as a matter of urgency,” he said.

Balmain Hospital has been providing health care to the Inner West community since 1885.

While Balmain is one of five hospitals in the Sydney Local Health District, it is the only public hospital in the Inner West Council area.
