International Day of People with Disability Film Festival

Inner West Council is hosting a weekend of films, music and live performance to mark the 2019 International Day of People With Disability.
The all-inclusive free event will span across two nights of film and panel discussions curated and created by and with people living with disability.
The International Day of People with a Disability Film Festival is a partnership with The Other Film Festival, Mable, Ethnic Community Services, Exodus Foundation, Disability Services Australia, Ability Links: Settlement Services International and Accessible Arts.
Highlights of the weekend include a free opening night cocktail party and a comedy debate on the Friday night, and a panel discussion featuring Inner West artists living with disability and short film screenings on the Saturday night.
There’s free popcorn and gelato both nights.
Nine short and full length feature films will be screened over the two day festival, including breakout Irish feature film Sanctuary.
Artistic Director of The Other Film Festival Fiona Tuomy said her organisation, along with Arts Access Victoria, were honoured to present their latest touring program in partnership with Inner West Council.
“These international and Australian films showcase the quality and diversity of the 2018 The Other Film Festival. Our aim is to present a visionary film program of an inclusive society where people with disability are at the centre of the storytelling – not marginalised, imitated or spoken about.
“There are many ways to tell stories and make screen work and we encourage the Australian screen sector to continue to embrace inclusive production structures and processes and employ deaf and disabled screen practitioners and performers,” Fiona said.
