Council launches new free gig guide, The Lineup
Friday, 1 November 2019
Council has launched a new free gig guide, The Lineup, as part of the on-going support for live music venues and creative industries in the Inner West.
The Lineup showcases local live music talent and venues. It is the latest initiative to emerge from Council’s Live Music Action Plan.
Other actions include:
• Live Music Grants, for venue capacity building and musician development
• Live Music/Cultural Planning Liaison Officer to assist live music venues with development applications
• Good Neighbour policy requiring all noise and amenity complaints about pubs, clubs and small bars to be mitigated not litigated
• Off Broadway plan to activate Parramatta Road by encouraging live music and arts activity
Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne said that these initiatives were all about encouraging and guiding new and existing live music venues.
“We want to reverse the trend of live music venues closing their doors across Sydney,” he said.
“If local venues need help – whether that is with noise complaints, or navigating what can be a bureaucratic maze of planning, safety and alcohol rules and regulations – then we can step in and assist.
“Meanwhile, the grants and now our new gig guide will also enhance the local music scene by improving both their physical locations and their ability to reach new audiences.
“We want to keep venues open and keep musicians in work. Live music has a rich and proud tradition in the Inner West. We need to engage residents, musicians, venue operators and local government to ensure that tradition of local pubs and clubs supporting local acts can continue.
“And that’s exactly what the Live Music Action Plan is achieving,” Mayor Byrne said.
Council is working with FBi Radio initially to ensure The Lineup is relevant and comprehensive.
