2019 Young Creatives Awards

Young local illustrators and writers were recognised last night at the Inner West Library and History 2019 Young Creatives Awards.
Inner West Councillor Lucille McKenna OAM presented the awards, which were held at Leichhardt Library.
“The writing and artworks here are just so impressive,” Councillor McKenna said. “I’m really proud of the all the young people who took the time to research and then create their entries.
“Special congratulations to this year’s winners, and I want to also thank the judges who I’m sure were also blown away by the standard at the 2019 Young Creatives Awards.”
Writing judges:
• Author and senior lecturer in the Creative Writing program at the University of Technology Gabrielle Carey
• Storyteller, education officer, tour guide, educator and children's librarian Jo Henwood
• Author and journalist and former Sydney Morning Herald Young Writer of the Year Will Kostakis
Art judges:
• Comics illustrator and storyboard artist Han Nguyen
• Illustrator and designer Hilary Sandeman
James Nguyen took out the Young Artist Award (12-15). His acrylic painting was inspired by a graphic novel, Celeste by I.N.J Culbard.
“I have enjoyed art all my life and I felt an urge to participate the young creative awards to have fun, and to see what I am capable of,” he said.
Young Writer Award 16-18 Winner ($500): Imogen Marosz (Earlwood)
Runner up: Jaden White (Concord West)
Young Writer Award 12-15 Winner ($500): Eugenie Yamamoto (Stanmore)
Runner up ($250): Rose Mitchell (Summer Hill)
Young Artist Award 16-18 Winner: Freesia Laris (Ashfield)
Runner Up ($250): Kelly Liu (Beverly Hills) Tempe High School
Young Artist Award 12-15 Winner: James Nguyen (Marrickville)
Runner Up ($250): Dylan Donnini (Petersham)
