2019 Amy Large Volunteer of the Year awards now open
Monday, 18 February 2019
Inner West Council’s annual Amy Large Volunteer of the Year awards are now open.
The awards honour local resident and much loved volunteer Amy Large, who passed away in 2015.
Amy was widely known for her long years of service supporting Birchgrove Public School committees, Birchgrove Scorpions Junior Rugby League team, Balmain Town Hall and Back to Balmain Day committees, as well as volunteering for the Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
In her lifetime Amy received many awards for volunteering, including:
• Public Service Medal for Outstanding Public Service to the Balmain Community
• Mayor's Volunteer Award
• Village Voice Citizen of Year Award
• Rotary Pride of Workmanship Award
The awards, formerly known as Volunteer of the Year, acknowledge outstanding contributions to local families, organisations, programs and individuals in need.
There are four award categories: Young Volunteer, Adult Volunteer, Senior Volunteer, and Volunteer Team/Group.
The winner in each category is eligible to win the Amy Large Volunteer of the Year Award, and is nominated for the 2018 NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards.
Nominations are judged on:
• Special or outstanding features of the volunteering
• The impact and benefit of the volunteering
• Examples of how the volunteer has displayed dedication above and beyond the norm
One of last year’s Adult Volunteer of the Year award winners, Jamie De Paulo, went on to win Council’s 2019 Inner West Citizen of the Year.
All nominees will be celebrated at a Thank You evening at Ashfield Town Hall, Thursday, 23 May, 6:30pm-8:30pm.
Nominations close Friday 15 March 2019, 5pm. Previous Council Volunteer of the Year award winners are ineligible.
