Site and Sound Arts 2018
Contemporary and traditional performances feature this year at Inner West Council’s Site and Sound Arts.
The diverse program encompasses interactive arts, brass bands, Kids Prom, Balkan Beat Masquerade Ball, and young opera and classical musicians.
Site and Sound Arts is held every year to animate and enliven the historic Leichhardt Town Hall, which has been in continuous use by the community since 1888.
Performances are chosen for their innovative community engagement, audience participation and arts education components.

A pop-up Autumn Social outside the Leichhardt Town Hall on Norton Street. Local band The Nightcaps will perform, and light refreshments will be served. Free. Bookings required.
Balkan Beat Ball on Romani Day with Lolo Lovina and Dj Cocek. Saturday, 7 April, 6:30pm-11pm.
Australian born Hungarian Romani-Gypsy singer Sarah Bedak and her band Lolo Lovina perform an intoxicating brew infused with Unza, Swing and Balkan Gypsy beats. Adults $25, children $10, family $50Bookings required
Seniors Soiree. Saturday, 14 April, 2pm-5pm.
The NSW Police Concert Band, with award-winning vocalist Belinda Adams, will perform under the command of Senior Sergeant Murray Mayday, and the musical direction of conductor John Saunders. Free champagne on arrival, plus mocktails and canapés. Free. Bookings required
Leichhardt Wind Orchestra Classics Concert. Sunday, 15 April, 3pm-5pm.

Kids Prom with the Inner West Community Band. Saturday, 21 April. Session 1: 10am – 11am. Session 2: 11:15am-12:15pm.
A fun and interactive concert where kids will see how trumpets toot, saxophones sing, and percussion performs. Featuring upbeat and familiar tunes including Let it Go from Frozen and Under the Sea fromThe Little Mermaid, and opportunities to join in. Children $5, adults $10. Bookings required.
Ensemble Apex XS. Sunday, 28 April, 4.30pm-6pm.
This student-run chamber orchestra, based at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and led by Sam Weller, is dedicated to diversifying classical music’s audience. The concert will include four small ensembles that will perform a variety of classical repertoire before coming together at the end for a combined finale. Free. An afternoon where art doesn’t sit statically on a wall, but are works that ask to be touched and participated with. Murder and Mystery afternoon of spine tingling music played by Inner West Community Band. Saturday, 5 May, 4pm.
Hear Bohemian Rhapsody, Phantom of the Opera, Hawaii Five-O, a band member sentenced to “Death by Tango” (Edward Fairlie), “Galloping Ghosts” (Ryden), and Bernstein’s famous “Overture to Candide”. Leichhardt Celebrity Brass presents a concert for all the family. Includes refreshments at interval, and plenty of raffle prizes. Adults $5, family $10. No bookings required.
Spidermaiden and the Runaway Plum Blossom, presented by Blush Opera. Sunday, 12 May, 4:30pm, 5:30pm, 6:30pm.
A musical fable about a Plum Blossom’s tuneful riddle, in a 30 minute chamber opera for the whole family. Blush Opera includes Soprano and Mezzo vocal accompanied by flute, clarinet, viola, and cello.www.blushopera.com
