Next Second Hand Saturday set for 10 March

Second Hand Saturday has become a familiar and popular weekend activity for many bargain hunters in the inner west for almost two decades.

The idea is simple: Garage sales are held by individual households in adjoining suburbs, turning the event into one giant collective sale known as Second Hand Saturday. 

Coordinated by Inner West Council, the next Second Hand Saturday is set for Balmain, Balmain East and Birchgrove on Saturday 10 March followed by Rozelle and Lilyfield (Saturday 24 March) and Leichhardt and Annandale (Saturday 5 May). 

The Second Hand Saturday program commenced locally in the year 2000 in Leichhardt and has run on multiple Saturdays each year ever since as residents quickly embraced the event as a fun, waste-saving initiative. 

It’s an antidote to today’s throwaway society, and diverts unwanted ‘stuff’ from landfill. 

At the same time, participants make a dollar or two and meet the neighbours. 

Everyone is invited to a day of guilt-free shopping and finding a unique bargain. 

A list of the garage sales and a handy map will be available on the Inner West Council website in the week of the relevant sale. Participating households will have Second Hand Saturday posters out the front of their homes on Saturday 10 March, 9am - 2pm.
