New app helps residents get their waste sorted
Tuesday, 16 October 2018
A new Waste App to help residents manage their waste properly, recycle correctly and informs them where to drop off tricky waste items has been launched by Inner West Council.
Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne said the ‘Inner West Council Your Waste’ app contains loads of information that is currently printed and distributed to over 70,000 households in the Inner West.
“The Inner West Council Your Waste app is a new and more efficient way to deliver our key waste information,” Cr Byrne said.
“It will allow residents to easily find their rubbish days for various collections, set reminders on their phone as well as find out about local drop off days in their area.
“Plus there’s an A-Z list of tricky waste items that explains where and how to dispose of them.”
Mayor Byrne said the app remains part of a suite of solutions for residents to receive waste service information.
“Residents without access to a smartphone or mobile device can continue to use Council’s online waste calendar to search for their collection day or download a printable waste calendar,” Cr Byrne said.
The Your Waste app includes:
- Access to a personalised waste calendar
- Bin collection reminders
- A bin guide to become an expert in what goes in which bin
- An A-Z list of items and how to dispose of them correctly
- Recycling Centres and local drop off locations for e-waste and chemicals
- General information on how to minimise waste and how council can support you on your journey to less waste.
The app also offers information about Council’s recycling centres including maps and opening hours and residents can even signup for notifications about household chemical and e-waste drop off events.
The A-Z feature of the app will answer common resident queries such as if you can place various items in one of the kerbside bins or what other disposal alternatives there are available in the Inner West.
The ‘Inner West Council Your Waste’ app is free to download now from the app store and google play, which means it is available for iOS and Android devices.
