International Women’s Day 2018 - Leave No Woman Behind

‘Leave No Woman Behind’ is the theme to celebrate International Women's Day 2018 at Petersham Town Hall with a twilight supper on Thursday, 8 March.

Each year, Council invites local women to join the global International Women's Day celebration that recognises the social, economic, cultural and political achievements and challenges of women globally including a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

The twilight supper event each year is a partnership between Leichhardt Women’s Community Health Centre and Inner West Council.

The 2018 event is promoted as a generational event for women of all ages with the ‘Leave No Woman Behind’ theme this year aiming to showcase the diversity of the women living and working in the inner west.

A great line up of speakers will focus on how the support of their community has helped them get to where they are now.

The festivities on 8 March include:
• A light supper with complimentary glass of sparkling wine;
• Kween G as MC; a performer and hip hop artist whose fighting spirit for women’s rights and those in disadvantaged communities have earned her respect across the country;
• Speaker Shukufa Tahiri, a refugee from Afghanistan who is now a policy assistant at the Refugee Council of Australia and is a member of Refugee Communities Advocacy Network;
• Speaker Christine Robinson, Wirringa Baiya, Aboriginal Women’s Legal Centre;
• Speaker Gisele Mesnage, born legally blind, Gisele’s passion is to bring about legal and other systemic reforms to create an inclusive digital society.

Council invites all residents to join in celebrating these women and embracing all women equally.
