Would I scare you if you saw me now?
Thursday, 23 February, 2017
To coincide with Mardi Gras, Inner West Council is hosting art at the Newtown ArtSeat and the Chrissie Cotter Gallery.
Artists Mog&Mog’s (Kate Fennell and Alexandra Edmondson) exhibition at CCG, Would I scare you if you saw me now? is a multi-media installation that uses personal narrative to shine a light on the ambiguities of queer experience, gender and sexual identity.
Similarly, Kate Fennell’s ‘Booby Dinosaur’ was installed at the ArtSeat on Wednesday 1 February.
“At face value both our Newtown ArtSeat image and our exhibition at Chrissie Cotter Gallery give viewers a laugh,” Kate said. “Both feature the iconic Booby Dinosaur as a playful take on female sexuality.
“On another level the works can be seen as a comment on the experience of fluidity and in a broader sense they explore the ambiguities of queer experience,” she said.
“We hope our exhibition at Chrissie Cotter will give us an opportunity to deepen and broaden our exploration of the themes in our work – and having Booby Dinosaur featured on the Newtown ArtSeat is a really exciting extension of the show, which allows us to experiment in a very different space,” Kate said.
