Pachamama Festival comes to inner west
14 June 2017
Running as part of Council's multi-event, cultural celebration Open Inner West, the Pachamama Festival promises to bring together Latin-American and Indigenous artists and storytellers to celebrate cultural connections to land through art, film, dance, workshops and music.
“The Pachamama Festival is all about rediscovering, strengthening and paying attention to our connection with the Earth,” said festival organiser, Mark Taylor.
“It’s a unique festival that showcases the people who are actively trying to share their wisdom to keep our world alive,” Mr Taylor said.
“We will be premiering some of the most exciting films to recently come out of Australia and Latin America, and will be featuring great live music, rare film screenings, unique workshops, spoken word events – and a virtual reality film experience like no other,” he said.
“There will be something to enlighten and entertain every member of the family,” he said.
“We invite people to come along and reconnect to nature,” he said.
A highlight of the festival will be the launch of the new Addison Road Picture House on Saturday 24 June at 1.30pm.
Sydney Latino Film Festival, a not-for-profit organisation, was awarded $28,500 through Inner West Council’s Stronger Communities Grants to fund the Picture House, with $4000 awarded to the organisation to realise the Pachamama Festival through Council’s Open Inner West program.
"We were delighted to win the Communities grant and Council’s funding has enabled us to realise a wonderful program of events to share with the community,” Mr Taylor said.
Administrator of Inner West Council Richard Pearson said that he was pleased to see that Sydney Latino Film Festival’s initiatives have been supported through Council funding.
"This is a local organisation that is dedicated to giving back to the community,” he said.
“It’s wonderful to see how Council funding can support such distinctive inner west initiatives dedicated to enriching our community,” he said.
Sydney Latin American Film Festival will inject funds raised from Pachamama Festival ticket sales into social justice, environmental and community development organisations in Latin America and Australia, through its Community Support Program.
