Open Inner West 2018 grant applications now open

Applications are now open for events and activities as part of Inner West Council’s ten day festival, Open Inner West 2018.

Funding is available for cultural groups, artists, schools and community groups to hold a cultural event, workshop or activity during 15 - 24 June 2018.

The festival brings together younger and older people to share cultural experiences and promote multiculturalism, community connections and participation.

The Inner West Council area takes in suburbs known for being traditionally Italian, Greek, Portuguese, Vietnamese and Chinese as well as a significant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population.

The inner west also has emerging populations such as Bengali, Indian, Thai, and the Philippines.

Open Inner West is helping Council achieve its Vision, which states: “We are Inner West, land of the Gadigal and Wangal peoples, whose rich cultures, heritage and history we acknowledge and respect. Together we are an inclusive, passionate, creative, vibrant community united in our desire to build a great future for all…”

Up to $7,500 is available per application. Open Inner West 2018 projects could include:

• workshops which teach and demonstrate a specific artistic practice related to a culture
• exhibitions
• music evenings celebrating the contribution of artists from a range of cultural backgrounds
• dance events like flash mobs and performances
• roving artists
• mini cultural festivals
• story telling
• poetry readings
• film festivals
• murals 

Two grant information sessions are scheduled for Tuesday 17 October, 11am–12 noon and 5:30–6:30pm, at Ashfield Service Centre, Activity Room 4, Ground Floor, 260 Liverpool Road Ashfield.
