footprints ecofestival on again soon
Thursday 17 August 2018
The 2017 footprints ecofestival is a day of live entertainment, free workshops and hands-on environment-themed experiences, plus a large option of food and drink choices – including this year, a Craft Beer Garden.
Now in its seventh year, the ecofestival is at Whites Creek Valley Park in Annandale on Sunday 27 August from 11am to 3pm.
Footprints ecofestival, a sustainability-inspired event for all ages, provides the perfect reason to visit Whites Creek Valley Park, a local hub of sustainability action and home to:
- Whites Creek Community Garden
- Whites Creek Wetlands
- The Rozelle Bay Community Native Nursery that helps supply local indigenous plants to further green the area and improve habitat for urban biodiversity
- The food forest and community orchard designed and based on the principals of permaculture to provide a local food source
The festival features live main stage performances including Dirt Girl from the popular ABC television show.
Other highlights are the food and information stalls, and workshops such as recycled art, tree planting, living without waste, native bee-keeping, making organic chutney, DIY kokedamas (Japanese moss balls hanging plants) and more.
A footprints Clothing Swap is open to all. Bring – or take – clothing from the tables of adult women's and men's clothing and shoes. Registration is required at www.eventbrite.com.au
Council’s Green Living Centre’s mobile waste-free kitchen, which teaches how to set up and maintain a low waste kitchen at home, will hold workshops on using up leftovers, making food last longer, recycling correctly, avoiding plastic, worm farming, and composting.
The ecofestival-affiliated Footprints Film Festival is on in the bicycle-powered cinema. Winners will be announced at 2:30pm.
For the first time ever, the Footprints Craft Beer Garden, in association with Inner West Craft Brewers association, will appear on the program.
Festival-goers are encouraged to walk, cycle, or take public transport. Cyclists can have their bicycles tuned up and parked in the valet bike parking area for free.
The community bus will do a loop through the Inner West Council local government area. See the map, stops and timetable here www.footprintsecofestival.com.au
The footprints ecofestival is a waste-wise event. Organics recycling facilities are available throughout the day. Sydney Water is providing water refill stations so bring refillable bottles.
