Amy Large Volunteer of the Year awards now open
Tuesday 6 June 2017
Inner West Council’s inaugural Amy Large Volunteer of the Year awards are now open.
The awards honour local resident and much loved volunteer Amy Large, who passed away in 2015.
Amy was widely known for her long years of service supporting Birchgrove Public School committees, the Birchgrove Scorpions Junior Rugby League team, the Balmain Town Hall and the Back to Balmain Day Committees, as well as volunteering for the Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
In her lifetime Amy received many awards for volunteering, including:
• Public Service Medal for Outstanding Public Service to the Balmain Community
• Mayor's Volunteer Award
• Village Voice Citizen of Year Award
• Rotary Pride of Workmanship Award
The awards, formerly known as Volunteer of the Year, acknowledge outstanding contributions to local families, organisations, programs and individuals in need.
There are four award categories: Young Volunteer, Adult Volunteer, Senior Volunteer, and Volunteer Team/Group.
The winner in each category will be eligible to win the Amy Large Volunteer of the Year Award.
He or she will then be put forward as a nominee of the 2017 NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards.
Nominations will be judged on:
- Special or outstanding features of the volunteering
- The impact and benefit of the volunteering
- Examples of how the volunteer has displayed dedication above and beyond the norm
Previous Council Volunteer of the Year award winners are ineligible.
Award nominations close Sunday 2 July. The awards night is at Leichhardt Town Hall, 107 Norton Street Leichhardt on Monday 17 July, 6.30pm - 8.30pm.
The inner west 2017 NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards will be announced on the Wednesday 23 August.
