WestConnex Construction Concerns Hit in School Holidays The Inner West Council is voicing concerns to the Sydney Motorway Corporation (SMC) about major M4 East construction planned over the July school holidays for the WestConnex project. Inner West Council has not given any approval for the work, it is proceeding with approval from the State Government. Administrator Richard Pearson said the Corporation’s consultation with Council had been inadequate with less than a week’s notice provided of the latest significant works. “Council officers continue to reinforce that the lead times the Corporation is giving Council to be informed of planned major works is completely unacceptable,” he said. “This has been a consistent pattern of their operations over the past six months. “I am arranging another meeting with the Sydney Motorway Corporation to discuss this and other WestConnex M4 East related issues that have been raised with me by the Ashfield Local Representation Advisory Committee(LRAC) and the community.” Mr Pearson said the most immediate major issue raised recently was works planned along Ramsay Street in Haberfield. This work is set to take place from 4-22 July through the school holidays and for one week after. “The two main connections for this work will involve major in road construction works, disruption and traffic detours for a period of three weeks,” he said. “The construction works will occur 24/7 Monday to Friday and during daytime hours on the weekends at the insistence of the RMS to avoid major traffic disruption in the area. “But there seems to have been little consideration given by the RMS or the Sydney Motorway Corporation about the impact this intensive work will have on the nearby residents most directly affected by the works. The Corporation has advised Council that they will letter box the area this week to inform residents of the July construction works and begin installing trailers with electronic messaging to inform motorists of the works and detours.
