Wall2Wall Mural Entries Closing Soon The hugely successful Wall2Wall public art competition is celebrating its tenth birthday with three big and bold new sites where local artists can share their work. Entries for the 2016 competition close at 5pm on Monday 17 October with prizes of up to $5,000 to be won. Last year’s Wall2Wall winner Steven Nuttall relished the chance to paint his ‘Ox King’ mural featuring an eye-catching deer (see attached image) on the rear wall of the famous Bald Faced Stag Hotel around one corner from Parramatta Rd in Leichhardt. “Painting in Wall2Wall last year was a great experience and coming in first place really helped legitimize my work,” he said. “It gave me a foothold to start working on much larger scale work.” “It was also awesome to paint the Bald Faced Stag. It is one of the last great rock pubs left in Sydney.” Steven added that the community response while he worked on the mural was also a great plus. “It was great fun to spend a week there painting in the sun and meeting all the regulars from the area. “I had a chat with a lot of people who have walked down that road every day for years and they were happy with the change. “I do this kind of work for people who aren't looking for it and don't expect to come across it so it is always good to hear a positive response on the work.” An initiative of the former Leichhardt Council, Wall2Wall project has resulted in ten years of murals being implemented in the former Leichhardt local government area, reducing graffiti in high profile locations and replacing it with high quality works by highly skilled artists. In 2016, Artist’s designs are being invited for the following sites: Site 1 - Wine Square at 63 - 65 Pyrmont Bridge Road, Camperdown; Site 2 - Peter J Fitzhenry (Autoworks) at 1-5 Chester Street, Camperdown; Site 3 - Old Bakery at 469 - 483 Balmain Road, Rozelle.
