Stunning Mural Creating Spiritual Connection A Rozelle wall is to receive an exceptional makeover with internationally renowned artist Matt Adnate commissioned to paint a mural to celebrate the 10th birthday of the Wall2Wall Mural Competition. Administrator of Inner West Council Mr Richard Pearson said that Matt Adnate was in demand locally and internationally for his soulful portraits of Aboriginal people. “He is painting a striking mural of an Indigenous Australia man to remind residents and visitors of the important role of the first custodians in keeping us connected to the spirit of this land,” he said. “Matt has an amazing capacity to capture the spirit of people.” Council was fortunate to have Yaama Aboriginal Programs & Nura Gunyu dance and perform a Smoking Ceremony at the park. “The men cleansed the Robert Street wall with smoke - readying it for the new mural,” said Mr Pearson. “They also become subjects for the artist’s design for the mural as he photographed them as proud representatives of their living culture.” The site is a wall that acts as the retaining wall for Waterdale Park, around the corner from the Bald Rock Hotel in Mansfield Street, Rozelle. Matt Adnate said he was very excited and honoured to be working on Gadigal and Wangal Country. “I hope the mural will have a significant impact on all the international people as they come through the harbour, and that it reminds the world of the original people of Australia,” he said. The Wall2Wall Mural Competition has seen over 50 large scale high quality murals implemented and will continue into the next ten years as a program that aerosol artists look forward to entering each year. This year’s finalists are currently working to finish their murals by Monday 12 December. The three finalists and their mural sites are: Site 1- Kyoudong Kim - Rear lane corner of Bignell Lane and Mallett Street, Camperdown Site 2- Alex LeHours - 1-5 Chester Street, Camperdown Site - 3 - Cara Jane Diffey - 469-483 Balmain Road, Rozelle
