Shop Local This Christmas It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and Inner West Shoppers are encourage to shop local this festive season and spread the local Christmas cheer to our local economy. Residents can also compete for one of four weekly prizes of a $100 voucher – to be spent at local businesses of course. Inner West Council Administrator Mr Richard Pearson said that this Christmas Council was encouraging people to shop local and keep jobs in the local economy. “We all love our main street shopping centres, they’re the hub of our community,” he said. “Shopping locally helps create a vibrant economy and that attracts more businesses to our area and keeps our established businesses going strong. “This Christmas Council is providing street decorations and entertainment to help boost our main street precincts. “The Balmain precinct is also having a special late night Christmas shopping event on the first of December. There will be specials and roving entertainers, so take a look at what the peninsula has to offer.” Council is offering four weekly prizes of $100 local shopping vouchers. To enter, all residents have to do is take a picture of themselves, their family or friends out and about in the inner west, post to social media with the hashtag #innerwestxmas and tell us what they love about Christmas in the inner west. They might like to use one of Council’s main street Christmas Trees as a backdrop, in the main shopping centres of Ashfield, Haberfield, Leichhardt, Petersham and Summer Hill. Christmas elves and balloon bending fairies would make for a great photo opp, and they can be found from 4-7pm on Thursday 1 December in Balmain and Thursday 15 December in Ashfield. They’ll also be spreading their Christmas cheer from 10am-1pm on Saturdays 3 December in Summer Hill and Dulwich Hill, 10 December in Rozelle and 17 December in Leichhardt, Haberfield and Marrickville. Kids will also love the Christmas entertainment, petting zoo and face painting at the Alex Trevallion Plaza in Marrickville on the 19th, 20th and 21st of December from 11am-3pm. Santa will pay a visit to the Haberfield Festa on Sunday 4 December – Natale in Haberfield – and perhaps sample some of the offerings from over 60 stall holders, along with top comic Joe Avati and a Hoot and Hootable show for the kids. With the Ashfield Carols by Candlelight on 10 December, Natale in Piazza carols and entertainment in Leichhardt’s Italian Forum on 11 December, Balmain Town Hall Carols on 14 December, Carols on Norton on 10 December in Pioneer’s Park, it’s a busy Christmas season. Get out, enjoy Christmas in the inner west, shop local and don’t forget to snap a pic and tag it #innerwestxmas for your chance to win!
