Roald Dahl month at Inner West Library branches

During the upcoming school holidays, Inner West Council Library branches are celebrating the 100th birthday of Roald Dahl, one of the world’s most treasured children’s authors.

The events across all Marrickville Library and Ashfield Library branches include Welcome to the Dream Factory, Create your own Peach Mobile, a Roald Dahl quiz, plus a Matilda and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory film screening.

Welcome to the Dream Factory (28 September and 7 October) will see kids recreate the BFG’s missing phizzwizard, dumhinger, ringbeller and whoopsy dream jars with a little science, alchemy and glitter (of course!). There is also a craft activity to make a very handy dreamcatcher, trapping phizzwizards for gloriumptious dreams every night.

With the help of some squawking seagulls, kids can Create their own Giant Peach mobile (27, 30 September, 5, 7 October). Grasshopper, spider, centipede, earthworm, silkworm and glow worm will all be on hand to save the day too.

Kids 12 and under are invited to enter the super tricky, extra fun quiz about Roald Dahl and his many wonderful books. Quizzes will be available to pick up from Ashfield Library throughout the month of September, with entries and prizes drawn on Monday 3 October.

To round things out, families can come to film screenings of the Roald Dahl classic tales, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (28 September) and Matilda (6 October). Popcorn and drinks provided, plus attendees can dress up as their favourite Willy Wonka character to win some great prizes.
